Become a Host Family

Would you like to open your home and your family to the experience of hosting an international student?

Sharing your culture and values with an overseas student is a wonderful opportunity to learn about theirs. QuickGalway has invited families to welcome international students into their Irish homes since 2016.

What do host families do?

With the assistance of a team of local coordinators and staff members, host families assist students in making friendships, learning up the language, and having a good time during their time overseas. Families can strengthen their bonds and form enduring friendships by sharing their culture and customs.

What do the students need to experience?

Students aren't supposed to be the family's live-in babysitter, au pair, or housekeeper. They desire to be regarded as an involved family member. They ought to have tasks and duties including helping with mealtimes, cleaning their own room, and doing the washing up. Some pupils from foreign cultures may find this difficult, although adaption is typically swift with diligence and patience.

What type of families are we looking for?

There is no 'typical' host family; all kinds of families are welcome to apply. Our Host Families are varied, multi-ethnic and multicultural just like the citizens who live in Ireland. Students can stay with both traditional Irish families and those of other nationalities or, again, single women or men, at different stages of their life, who make rooms in their home available simply for the pleasure of hosting international students and relating to new cultures, a typical element of the spirit that is lived in Ireland.

QuickGalway Short-Programs

Duration: 2 –5 weeks, starting throughout the year. Students will be 16–19 years old.

Secondary school students travel with European mobility programs. They come to Ireland to study English or to have an internship experience.

Our family had the pleasure of hosting several international students over the summer of 2024. The experience was enriching and rewarding for all of us. Our guests were polite, and respectful, and quickly became a part of our family. They were eager to learn about our culture and customs, and we enjoyed sharing our traditions with them. We often had lively conversations over meals, discussing everything from current events to personal interests. It was a wonderful experience for our young children to meet students from a different country. They loved playing board games with them and in the evenings they would have great fun playing games outside. They even picked up some Italian. We were impressed by how easily the students integrated into our family and we would highly recommend it to other families who are considering opening their homes to students from Quick Galway. It’s a fantastic way to broaden horizons, learn about different cultures, and create lasting friendships.
The Canny Family
We've had the pleasure of being a host family for Quick Galway many times and it is always an enriching experience. My kids enjoy meeting new students and we love trying out new foods and languages. Quick are great and the service feels both personal and professional. We're looking forward to having new students join our family in the future.
